Why every house needs a bookcase?

Early days, print forms have been our only reliable source of news, lauded for years. But now technology has made us want anything on a click and a touch. Information is bombarded from all corners, thus making our reading effortless and devoid of learning.

Can we turn the tables? Hell no! I can't keep my phone down even for a second. But we gotta change too. So how to make our millennials take a nose-dive to loving books? 

Why we don't read?
In our free time,  browse youtube videos or , might even cry over the sloppy serials. But do we really enjoy it? Tv and gaming are a momentary craving like the potato chip, you can’t just stop at one :) And you get nothing but strained knuckles and myopic eyes. But a book is different. It is a lifetime friend that fills you with unique experiences, where all the characters come alive and enthrall us into a surreal world. Dare flip a page?

Great Readers become Great Legends:
Do you know your neighbor? No. Does someone live there? Who cares? But how about Lincoln or Gandhi ? Sure, Yes we heard about them, read or quoted from their biographies. They are dead decades back but their lives have been a Wikipedia of great thoughts for many. A man of words is not born but created and nurtured through their knowledge.

Can you believe the popular epic 'A Game of Thrones' is an imagination of a single man George.R.R.Martin? It took him decades to plot the entire dynasty and there are some more to come. Behind every successful person is a book-lover. Let’s not forget its value and take the right step starting from our homes.

Make a Home library:
Set up a library in the living room with books for all ages and convenient for access. And the simple route to influence today’s kids to read is to set an example. Talk them about stories, don’t just play them on iPad. Read news articles and debate about them in front of your kids. Soon the child will try to imitate you. If your playful kid flips through the pictures of a book, assure yourself you are almost there!

Reading linked to Mathematics:
We all know a good academic performance is linked to good reading habits, surprisingly it can influence your math scores too. Can maths be fun? Yes. Mathematics can be as exciting a story, except here letters are replaced by numbers. With continuous exposure to reading, learning new things is easy. So students can easily follow the steps of an equation or  grasp the logic behind a problem.

From kids to adults, It is never too late to get the habit kick-off. Here are some tried and tested practices to bring the reader in you:

  • For a start, get something small and simple. With a big volume, you might doze halfway through the pages.
  • Carry a book always with you, so travel and queues will be no longer tiresome.
  • Make reading a regular practice just like brushing or eating.
  • Have a book buddy to share your views and knowing.
  • Visit the library, bookshops or download to find the latest in the market.
Learning never ends:
Learning is a continuous process, a quest to discover the unknown. Choose a wide array of topics, It can be romance, spirituality, history, UFOs or paranormal fiction. With endless choices ranging from print books, kindle to e-readers, let your passion for reading be alive all the time.
